Shri Vasistha said: In the awareness that is the essence of consciousness, from the beginning to the end of the world, renunciation is achieved in the form of a peaceful lamp, and not otherwise.
Renunciation is not the giving up of actions; it is the renunciation of the ego. The one who is beyond the world, whose essence is pure consciousness, and who is imperishable, is known as the true renunciate.
For one who has the realization 'I am this, this is mine,' the dissolution of the ego leads to the peaceful and blissful state of enlightenment. There is nothing else beyond this.
The delusion of 'I am not I' does not exist without the knowledge of consciousness. Consciousness is as pure as the sky, so where is the place for this delusion?
There is no delusion, no wandering, no deluded one, nor is there a deluder. This is merely non-perception; from perception, this does not exist for you.
One who has conquered the six enemies (lust, anger, greed, attachment, pride, and envy) by oneself is a vessel for great purposes, not an ordinary man who is like a donkey.
yasya svāntarmanovṛttirjīyamānā jitāthavā | viṣayaḥ sa vivekānāṃ sa pumāniti kathyate || 16 ||
One whose mental activities are being conquered or have been conquered, that object is said to be the subject of discrimination, and he is called a wise man.
Even after realizing 'I am not this,' and understanding the logical reasoning, why do you still get confused like an ignorant person, knowing only the mere perception?
yo yo bhāva udetyantastvayi spanda ivānile | nāhamasmīti cidvṛttyā tamānādhāratāṃ naya || 20 ||
Whatever feeling arises within you like a vibration in the wind, lead it to non-support with the thought 'I am not this' through the activity of consciousness.
lobho lajjā mado moḥo yenādāviti no jitāḥ | nirarthakamanarthe'smin sa kimarthaṃ pravartate || 21 ||
Greed, shame, pride, and delusion—these are not conquered by one who is not self-controlled. What purpose does such a person serve in this meaningless existence?
The sense of 'I' is like the vibration in the wind. Whatever is established in you, that is not different from the Supreme Self, just as the vibration is not different from the wind.
paraṃ pare pūrṇaṃ pūrṇe śāntaṃ śānte śivaṃ śive | ityēvamātraṃ vitataṃ nāhaṃ na ca jaganna dhīḥ || 25 ||
The Supreme is complete in the complete, peaceful in the peaceful, auspicious in the auspicious. Thus, it is spread out. There is no 'I', no world, no intellect.
anirvāṇe vinirvāṇaṃ śāntaṃ śānte śive śivam | nirvāṇamapyanirvāṇaṃ sanabhorthaṃ na vāpi tat || 26 ||
In the state of non-liberation, there is liberation; in peace, there is peace; in auspiciousness, there is auspiciousness. Even in liberation, there is non-liberation; the essence of existence is neither this nor that.
Like a tear, the meaning of 'I' is insignificant yet appears significant; the supreme mirror, though spotless, reflects peacefully in that tranquility.
ahamarthera pare vāyau spandastatpraśame tu tat | anirdeśyamanābhāsamamanantamajamavyayam || 30 ||
The meaning of 'I' is in the supreme ether; the vibration ceases in that tranquility; it is indescribable, without appearance, infinite, unborn, and imperishable.
When the cloud of the self's essence dissipates, the sky of the ultimate truth shines | With supreme, endless splendor, it radiates pure brilliance || 32 ||
ahamarthamalonmuktamavyaktaṃ tāmram aṅga cet | tatparaṃ paramābhāsaṃ saṃpannaṃ hema kāntimat || 33 ||
If the self's essence is freed from impurities and is unmanifest, then it is like copper | That supreme, radiant, and complete is like golden brilliance || 33 ||
sadbrahma śivamātmeti pare nāmakalaṅkitā| udetyahantā kumbhatvādiva mṛddhātuvismṛtiḥ|| 37 ||
The supreme is adorned with names such as Sat, Brahma, Shiva, and Atman. Arising as 'I', it is like the forgetfulness of the essential nature of the pot, etc.
This, resembling the ocean, river, and stream, is the form, world, and desire, etc., and is the inner delight of the seed of the meaning of 'I', like a mirage.
The self, which is the essence of 'I', flows into Brahman like a drop of oil in water, and that which is pure and bright, the three worlds are established in it.
In this supreme reality, which is attained merely by the contemplation of one's own consciousness, do not be distressed or confused, for it is already accomplished.
Forgetting the 'I', be the all-pervading, complete universe, pure in essence, embodied in the forms of mountains, sky, earth, oceans, and winds. Be at peace, free from sorrow, devoid of impurities, beyond the material world, motionless, and the essence of all that is manifest and unmanifest.
