Shikhidhvaja said: I understand that the mind does not exist. How can this be clearly established through reasoning? Or tell me another way, for I am not very wise.
Thus, the world, which is of the nature of ignorance and intellect, does not exist. Therefore, whatever appears is the shining of Brahman, not anything else.
ceto hi vāsanāmātraṃ vāsye tu sati vāsanā | vāsyaṃ jagattadevāsadataścittāstitā kutaḥ || 11 ||
The mind is indeed just a collection of impressions; when there is a dwelling, there is an impression. The world is that dwelling; hence, how can there be a state of mind?
yatkiṃcitparamākāśa īṣatkacakacāyate | cidādarśe na jātatvānna cittaṃ no jagatkriyā || 15 ||
Whatever little that shines in the supreme space is a mere reflection in the mirror of consciousness. It is not real; there is no mind, nor is there any activity in the world.
Since the world does not exist, there is no desire for it. Therefore, what is the nature of the mind that is identified with it? Where, from where, and how does it arise?
notpannaṃ kāraṇābhāvātsargādāveva sarvadā | lokaśāstrānubhavato na ca dṛśyasya vastunaḥ || 19 ||
It has not arisen due to the absence of a cause, always from the beginning of creation. According to worldly knowledge, scriptures, and experience, it is not a real object.
lokaḥ shāstrāṇi vedāścha pramāṇaṃ yasya no mateḥ | asadbhyo hyatimūḍhaḥ sa sajjanaḥ taṃ na saṃśrayet || 23 ||
One whose authority is the world, scriptures, and Vedas, and not one's own opinion, is indeed very foolish among the unrighteous. A wise person should not take refuge in such a one.
Thus, O sage, that which is perceived in this manner is always so, and it cannot be without purposeful action. This world would not be so if it were otherwise.
Brahman, which is the form of all, peaceful, and the cause of everything, is inherently the abode of the self, holding the forms of creation and dissolution.
By that very self, one's own form is known instantly, like the world. In the next moment, it is realized that only Brahman exists in the selfless state.
sarvam nirālambamajam praśāntamanādirityātma yathāsthitam sat| idam tu nāneva na cāpyanānā yathāsthitam tiṣṭha sukāṣṭhamounam || 30 ||
All this is without support, unborn, peaceful, and without beginning, as it is in the self. This is neither one nor many, as it is. Remain in blissful silence.
