भुशुण्ड उवाच । इत्युत्सवे वर्तमाने तासां वाहास्त उत्तमाः । तथैव मत्ता जहसुर्ननृतुः पपुरप्यसृक् ॥ १ ॥
bhushuṇḍa uvāca | ityutsave vartamāne tāsāṃ vāhāsta uttamāḥ | tathaiva mattā jahasurnanṛtuḥ papurapyasṛk || 1 ||
Bhushunda said: While the festival was going on like this, their finest mounts, just as drunk, laughed, danced, and even drank blood.
भुशुण्ड ने कहा: जब उत्सव इसी तरह चल रहा था, तब उनकी सबसे अच्छी सवारियाँ भी उसी तरह नशे में धुत होकर हँसीं, नाचीं और खून भी पी गईं।
तत्रैकत्रासवोन्मत्ताः काश्चिन्ननृनुरम्बरे । रथहंस्यः स्थिता ब्राहम्यः काकश्चालम्बुसारथः ॥ २ ॥
tatraikatrāsavonmattāḥ kāścinnanṛnurambare | rathahaṃsyaḥ sthitā brāhamyaḥ kākaścālambusārathaḥ || 2 ||
There, some, wild with liquor, danced together in the sky. Brahmi's chariot-swans stood by, and the crow was the charioteer of Alambusa.
वहाँ कुछ शराब में मस्त होकर आकाश में साथ-साथ नाचने लगीं। ब्राह्मी के रथ खींचने वाली हंसिनियाँ वहीं खड़ी रहीं, और कौआ आलम्बुसा का सारथी था।
नृत्यन्तीनां च हंसीनां पिबन्तीनामथासवम् । तले चाब्धितटानां तु रतिः सम्यगजायत ॥ ३ ॥
nṛtyantīnāṃ ca haṃsīnāṃ pibantīnāmathāsavam | tale cābdhitataṭānāṃ tu ratiḥ samyagajāyata || 3 ||
The swans danced and drank liquor, and at the foot of the ocean's shore they gave themselves fully to lovemaking.
वे हंसिनियाँ नाचती और शराब पीती रहीं, और समुद्र के किनारे की तलहटी में वे पूरी तरह प्रेम-क्रीड़ा में डूब गईं।
संजातरतयो मत्ताः सर्वा हंस्य क्रमेण ताः । रेमिरे सह काकेनाप्यथ मत्तास्तदा किल ॥ ४ ॥

All those swans, drunk and full of desire, made love one by one with the drunken crow too, indeed.
वे सभी हंसिनियाँ नशे में डूबी और वासना से भरी हुई थीं; वे एक-एक करके उस नशे में डूबे कौए के साथ भी रमण करने लगीं।
सप्तानां कुलहंसीनां दयितो वायसस्त्वसो । क्रमेणारमतैकत्र यावदन्योन्यमीप्सितम् ॥ ५ ॥
saptānāṃ kulahaṃsīnāṃ dayito vāyasastvaso | krameṇāramataikatra yāvadanyonyamīpsitam || 5 ||
That crow was the lover of the seven noble swans; he made love with them one by one, until each one's desire for the other was fulfilled.
वह कौआ उन सात कुलीन हंसिनियों का प्रियतम था; उसने एक-एक करके उन सबके साथ प्रेम किया, जब तक हर एक की चाहत पूरी नहीं हो गई।
अथ ता गर्भधारिण्यो बभूवुरतितोषिताः । देव्यश्च कृतनृत्यास्ताः सुप्रशान्तमथाययुः ॥ ६ ॥
atha tā garbhadhāriṇyo babhūvuratitoṣitāḥ | devyaśca kṛtanṛtyāstāḥ suprasāntamathāyayuḥ || 6 ||
Then they became pregnant, greatly pleased. And the goddesses, their dance now done, went then to a very peaceful place.
फिर वे गर्भवती हो गईं और बहुत खुश हुईं। और वे देवियाँ, जिनका नाचना अब खत्म हो चुका था, फिर एक बहुत शांत जगह चली गईं।
ददुरोदनतां यातमीश्वराय प्रियामुमाम् । भोजनाय महामायां देव्यस्ताः शूलपाणये ॥ ७ ॥
dadurodanatāṃ yātamīśvarāya priyāmumām | bhojanāya mahāmāyāṃ devyastāḥ śūlapāṇaye || 7 ||
The goddesses gave Uma, his beloved, the great Maya who had turned into food, to the Lord, the trident-bearer, for his meal.
उन देवियों ने उमा को, जो उनकी प्रिया और महामाया थीं और भोजन बन चुकी थीं, भगवान त्रिशूलधारी को खाने के लिए दे दिया।
प्रिया मे भोजने दत्तेत्येवं च शशिशेखरः । बुद्ध्वा बभूव रुषितो यदा मातृगणं प्रति ॥ ८ ॥
priyā me bhojane dattetyevaṃ ca śaśiśekharaḥ | buddhvā babhūva ruṣito yadā mātṛgaṇaṃ prati || 8 ||
Realizing that his beloved had been given as food, the one who wears the moon on his head grew angry at the mother-goddesses.
यह जानकर कि उनकी प्रिया को खाने के लिए दे दिया गया है, सिर पर चाँद धारण करने वाले वह देवता माता-देवियों पर बहुत क्रोधित हो गए।
तदा तास्तां समुत्पाद्य स्वाङ्गदानेन वै पुनः । ददुर्भूयो विवाहेन पार्वतीमिन्दुमौलये ॥ ९ ॥
tadā tāstāṃ samutpādya svāṅgadānena vai punaḥ | dadurbhūyo vivāhena pārvatīmindumaulaye || 9 ||
Then they, having made her again by giving parts of their own bodies, once more gave Parvati in marriage to the one who wears the moon on his head.
फिर उन्होंने अपने ही शरीर के अंश देकर उसे दोबारा बनाया, और पार्वती को फिर से चाँद सिर पर धारण करने वाले उन्हीं से विवाह में सौंप दिया।
ततो देव्यो हरश्चैव परिवारस्तथैतयोः । सर्वे संतुष्टमनसः स्वां स्वामुपययुर्दिशम् ॥ १० ॥
tato devyo haraścaiva parivārastathaitayoḥ | sarve saṃtuṣṭamanasaḥ svāṃ svāmupayayurdishaṃ || 10 ||
Then the goddesses, and Hara himself, and the group that went with both of them — all of them, with happy minds, went each to their own direction.
फिर देवियाँ, और स्वयं हर, और उन दोनों के साथ चलने वाला दल — ये सब मन में खुश होकर अपनी-अपनी दिशा में चले गए।
अन्तर्वत्न्यो बभूवुस्ता ब्राह्म्यो हंस्यो मुनीश्वर । वृत्तान्तं कथयामासुर्ब्राह्म्या देव्या यथास्थितम् ॥ ११ ॥
antarvatnyo babhūvustā brāhmyo haṃsyo munīśvara | vṛttāntaṃ kathayāmāsurbrāhmyā devyā yathāsthitam || 11 ||
Brahmi's swans became pregnant, O lord of sages; they told the goddess Brahmi what had happened, exactly as it was.
हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ, ब्राह्मी की हंसिनियाँ गर्भवती हो गईं; उन्होंने देवी ब्राह्मी को जो कुछ हुआ था, ठीक वैसा ही बता दिया।
ब्राह्म्युवाच । हे वत्स्यः सांप्रतं वत्सवत्यो मे रथकर्मणि । न समर्था भवन्त्यो हि स्वैरं चरत सांप्रतम् ॥ १२ ॥
brāhmyuvāca | he vatsyaḥ sāṃprataṃ vatsavatyo me rathakarmaṇi | na samarthā bhavantyo hi svairaṃ carata sāṃpratam || 12 ||
Brahmi said: O dear daughters, now that you carry young, you are not fit for chariot-work; roam freely now.
ब्राह्मी ने कहा: हे प्रिय बेटियो, अब जब तुम गर्भ धारण किए हुए हो, तो तुम रथ खींचने के काम के लायक नहीं रहीं; अब जहाँ चाहो वहाँ स्वतंत्र होकर घूमो।
इति गर्भालसा हंसीरुक्त्वा देवी दयापरा । निर्विकल्पसमाधाने ब्राह्मी तस्थौ यथासुखम् ॥ १३ ॥
iti garbhālasā haṃsīruktvā devī dayāparā | nirvikalpasamādhāne brāhmī tasthau yathāsukham || 13 ||
Having said this to the swans, now heavy and slow with pregnancy, the kind goddess Brahmi stayed on happily, deep in meditation beyond all thought.
गर्भ के भार से थकी और सुस्त हो चुकी उन हंसिनियों से यह कहकर, दयालु देवी ब्राह्मी खुशी-खुशी उस गहरे, विचार-रहित ध्यान में लीन रहीं।
अजनाभिसरोजान्तवैरिञ्चकमलाकरे । गर्भालसा विचेरुस्ता राजहंस्यो मुनीश्वर ॥ १४ ॥
ajanābhisarojaantavairiñcakamalākare | garbhālasā vicerustā rājahaṃsyo munīśvara || 14 ||
In Brahma's lotus pond, inside the lotus that grew from the navel of the unborn one, the royal swans, heavy with young, wandered about, O lord of sages.
हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ, ब्रह्मा के उस कमल-सरोवर में, उस कमल के भीतर जो अजन्मे की नाभि से उगा था, वे राजहंसिनियाँ गर्भ के भार से लदी हुई घूमती रहीं।
एवं विपक्वगर्भास्ता नाभीकमलपल्लवे । सुवते स्म मृदून्यण्डान्यथ वल्ल्य इवाङ्कुरान् ॥ १५ ॥
evaṃ vipakvagarbhāstā nābhīkamalapallave | suvate sma mṛdūnyaṇḍānyatha vallya ivāṅkurān || 15 ||
Thus, with their pregnancy fully ripened, they laid soft eggs on the petal of the navel-lotus, like creepers putting out shoots.
इस तरह, जब उनका गर्भ पूरी तरह पक गया, तो उन्होंने नाभि-कमल की पंखुड़ी पर नरम अंडे दिए, जैसे बेलें अंकुर फोड़ती हैं।
तानि कालं समासाद्य ततोऽण्डान्येकविंशतिः । गर्भाक्रान्त्या द्विधा जग्मुर्ब्रह्माण्डानीव सारवत् ॥ १६ ॥
tāni kālaṃ samāsādya tato'ṇḍānyekaviṃśatiḥ | garbhākrāntyā dvividhā jagmurbrahmāṇḍānīva sāravat || 16 ||
When their time came, those twenty-one eggs then split in two by the force of the womb, whole within, like cosmic eggs.
जब उनका समय आया, तो वे इक्कीस अंडे गर्भ के दबाव से दो-दो हिस्सों में फूट गए, अंदर से पूरी तरह भरे हुए, जैसे ब्रह्मांड के अंडे होते हैं।
अण्डेभ्यस्तेभ्य एवं हि जाता वयमिमे मुने । भ्रातरश्चण्डतनया वायसा एकविंशतिः ॥ १७ ॥
aṇḍebhyastebhya evaṃ hi jātā vayamime mune | bhrātaraścaṇḍatanayā vāyasā ekaviṃśatiḥ || 17 ||
From those eggs, this is how we were born, O sage — these brothers, twenty-one crows, sons of Chanda.
उन्हीं अंडों से, हे मुनि, हम इस तरह पैदा हुए — ये भाई, इक्कीस कौए, चण्ड के पुत्र।
ते संजाता गता वृद्धिं तस्मिन्कमलपल्लवे । संजातपक्षाः संपन्ना गगनोड्डयने क्षमाः ॥ १८ ॥
te saṃjātā gatā vṛddhiṃ tasminkamalapallave | saṃjātapakṣāḥ saṃpannā gaganōḍḍayane kṣamāḥ || 18 ||
Once born, we grew up on that lotus petal; once our wings had grown, we became able to fly in the sky.
पैदा होने के बाद हम उसी कमल की पंखुड़ी पर बड़े हुए; पंख उगने के बाद हम आकाश में उड़ने के काबिल हो गए।
मातृभिः सह हंसीभिर्ब्राह्मी भगवती ततः । चिरमाराधिता सम्यक्समाधिविरता सती ॥ १९ ॥
mātṛbhiḥ saha haṃsībhirbrāhmī bhagavatī tataḥ | ciramārādhitā samyaksamādhi-viratā satī || 19 ||
Then the divine Brahmi, who was true and good, came out of her meditation, after being worshipped for a long time by the mother-goddesses together with the swans.
फिर सच्ची और भली देवी ब्राह्मी, माता-देवियों और हंसिनियों द्वारा लंबे समय तक पूजे जाने के बाद, अपने ध्यान से बाहर आ गईं।
प्रसादपरया काले भगवत्या ततः स्वयम् । तथाङ्गानुगृहीता स्मो येन मुक्ता वयं स्थिताः ॥ २० ॥
prasādaparayā kāle bhagavatyā tataḥ svayam | tathāṅgānugṛhītā smo yena muktā vayaṃ sthitāḥ || 20 ||
Then, in time, the goddess, full of grace, herself blessed our bodies, and by this we came to remain free.
फिर, समय आने पर, वह दयालु देवी स्वयं हमारे शरीर पर कृपा कर बैठीं, और इसी से हम मुक्त होकर रह गए।
संशान्तमनसः शान्ता एकान्ते ध्यानसंस्थितौ । तिष्ठाम इति निश्चित्य पितुः पार्श्वे वयं गताः ॥ २१ ॥
saṃśāntamanasaḥ śāntā ekānte dhyānasaṅsthitau | tiṣṭhāma iti niścitya pituḥ pārśve vayaṃ gatāḥ || 21 ||
With our minds fully calmed and at peace, we decided to stay settled alone in meditation, and went to our father's side.
हमारा मन पूरी तरह शांत हो चुका था; हमने तय किया कि हम अकेले में ध्यान में स्थिर रहेंगे, और अपने पिता के पास चले गए।
आलिङ्गितास्ततः पित्रा पूजितालम्बुसा वयम् । तया दृष्टाः प्रसादेन संस्थितास्तत्र संयताः ॥ २२ ॥
āliṅgitāstatas pitrā pūjitālambusā vayam | tayā dṛṣṭāḥ prasādena saṃsthitāstatra saṃyatāḥ || 22 ||
Then, having honored Alambusa, we were hugged by our father; she looked at us with favor, and we stayed there, calm and controlled.
फिर, आलम्बुसा का सम्मान करने के बाद, हमारे पिता ने हमें गले लगाया; उसने हमें कृपा भरी नज़र से देखा, और हम वहाँ शांत और संयमित होकर रहने लगे।
चण्ड उवाच । पुत्राः कच्चिदपर्यन्तवासनातन्तुगुण्ठितात् । भवन्तो निर्गता नूनमस्मात्संसारजालकात् ॥ २३ ॥
caṇḍa uvāca | putrāḥ kaccidaparyantavāsanātantuguṇṭhitāt | bhavanto nirgatā nūnamasmātsaṃsārajālakāt || 23 ||
Chanda said: Sons, have you truly come out from this net of rebirth, wrapped as it is in endless threads of desire?
चण्ड ने कहा: बेटो, क्या तुम सचमुच इस जन्म-मरण के जाल से बाहर निकल आए हो, जो वासना के अनगिनत धागों में लिपटा हुआ है?
नो चेद्वयं भगवतीं तदिमां भृत्यवत्सलाम् । प्रार्थयामो यथा यूयं भवथ ज्ञानपारगाः ॥ २४ ॥
no cedvayaṃ bhagavatīṃ tadimāṃ bhṛtyavatsalām | prārthayāmo yathā yūyaṃ bhavatha jñānapāragāḥ || 24 ||
If not, we will pray to this goddess, who loves her servants, so that you may cross over to the very end of knowledge.
अगर नहीं, तो हम इस देवी से, जो अपने सेवकों से प्रेम करती हैं, प्रार्थना करेंगे कि तुम ज्ञान की पूरी सीमा तक पहुँच जाओ।
काका ऊचुः । तात ज्ञातमलं ज्ञेयं ब्राह्म्या देव्याः प्रसादतः । किंत्वेकान्तस्थितेः स्थानमभिवाञ्छाम उत्तमम् ॥ २५ ॥
kākā ūcuḥ | tāta jñātamalaṃ jñeyaṃ brāhmyā devyāḥ prasādataḥ | kiṃtvekāntasthiteḥ sthānamabhivāñchāma uttamam || 25 ||
The crows said: Father, enough has been known — all there is to know — by the grace of the goddess Brahmi; but we wish for an excellent place to live alone.
कौओं ने कहा: पिताजी, देवी ब्राह्मी की कृपा से जो कुछ जानने योग्य था, वह सब जान लिया गया है; लेकिन हम अकेले रहने के लिए एक बेहतरीन जगह चाहते हैं।
चण्ड उवाच । सर्वरत्नगणाधारः समस्तसुरसंश्रयः । अस्ति ह्येव महोत्सेधो मेरुर्नाम महीधरः ॥ २६ ॥
caṇḍa uvāca | sarvaratnagaṇādhāraḥ samastasurasaṃśrayaḥ | asti hyeva mahotse dho merurnāma mahīdharaḥ || 26 ||
Chanda said: There is a very tall mountain named Meru, the base of all the gems, the shelter of all the gods.
चण्ड ने कहा: मेरु नाम का एक बहुत ऊँचा पर्वत है, जो सब रत्नों का आधार है और सब देवताओं का आश्रय है।
लसच्चन्द्रार्कदीपस्य भूतवृन्दकलत्रिणः । ब्रह्माण्डमण्डपस्यान्तः स्तम्भः कनकनिर्मितः ॥ २७ ॥
lasaccandrārkadīpasya bhūtavṛndakalatriṇaḥ | brahmāṇḍamaṇḍapasyāntaḥ stambhaḥ kanakanirmitaḥ || 27 ||
Its lamps are the shining sun and moon, its companions are crowds of living beings; it is the golden pillar standing inside the hall of the whole universe.
उसके दीये चमकते सूरज और चाँद हैं, उसके साथी अनगिनत जीव हैं; वह पूरे ब्रह्माण्ड के मंडप के भीतर खड़ा सोने का खंभा है।
सौवर्णचन्द्रपीठाढ्यो रत्नाढ्यशिखराङ्गुलिः । ध्वनद्द्वीपाब्धिवलयो भुवेवोन्नमितो भुजः ॥ २८ ॥
sauvarṇacandrapīṭhāḍhyo ratnāḍhyaśikharāṅguliḥ | dhvanaddvīpābdhivalayo bhuvevonnamito bhujaḥ || 28 ||
Rich with a golden seat shaped like the moon, its peak like a finger studded with gems, ringed by roaring islands and oceans, it stands like an arm lifted up from the earth.
चाँद जैसे सोने के आसन से भरा, रत्नों-जड़ी चोटी जिसकी उँगली है, गरजते हुए द्वीपों और समुद्रों के घेरे से घिरा, वह धरती से ऊपर उठी हुई भुजा जैसा खड़ा है।
वृतः कुलाद्रिसामन्तैर्जम्बूद्वीपासने स्थितः । राजा चन्द्रार्कनयने भ्रमयञ्छैलसंसदि ॥ २९ ॥
vṛtaḥ kulādrisāmantairjambūdvīpāsane sthitaḥ | rājā candrārkanayane bhramayañchailasaṃsadi || 29 ||
Ringed by the great mountains standing round it like vassals, seated on the throne of Jambudvipa, it is a king whose eyes are the sun and moon, turning them in the gathering of the mountains.
बड़े-बड़े पर्वत सेवकों की तरह उसके चारों ओर खड़े हैं, वह जम्बूद्वीप के सिंहासन पर बैठा है; वह एक राजा है जिसकी आँखें सूरज और चाँद हैं, और पर्वतों की सभा में वह उन्हें घुमाता है।
तारौघमालतीमाल्यो दिग्दशैकाम्बराम्बरः । नागजातिद्वयस्थात्मा नाकनायकभूषणः ॥ ३० ॥
tāraughamālatīmālyo digdaśaikāmbarāmbaraḥ | nāgajātidvayasthātmā nākanāyakabhūṣaṇaḥ || 30 ||
Its garland is a flood of stars like a string of jasmine, the ten directions are its one robe, its body rests among two kinds of serpents, and it is adorned by the lord of heaven.
उसकी माला तारों की भरमार से बनी चमेली की माला जैसी है, दसों दिशाएँ उसका एक ही वस्त्र हैं, उसका शरीर सर्पों की दो जातियों के बीच टिका है, और उसे स्वर्ग के स्वामी से सजाया गया है।
दिगङ्गनाभिरभितो रम्याभिः पुरभूषणैः। एष निस्यन्दिभिः शीतैर्वीजितो घनचामरैः ॥ ३१ ॥
digaṅganābhirabhito ramyābhiḥ purabhūṣaṇaiḥ| eṣa nisyandibhiḥ śītairvījito ghanacāmaraiḥ || 31 ||
This mountain is surrounded on every side by the lovely maidens of the directions, who are the beauty of their cities, and it is fanned by cool, flowing, thick fly-whisks.
यह पर्वत चारों ओर से दिशाओं की सुंदर स्त्रियों से घिरा है, जो अपने नगरों की शोभा हैं, और उसे ठंडी, बहती, घनी चँवरों से हवा दी जाती है।
षोडशास्य सहस्राणि योजनानामधः क्षितौ। स्थिताः पादाः प्रपूज्यन्ते नागासुरमहोरगैः ॥ ३२ ॥
ṣoḍaśāsya sahasrāṇi yojanānāmadhaḥ kṣitau| sthitāḥ pādāḥ prapūjyante nāgāsuramahoragaiḥ || 32 ||
Sixteen thousand yojanas down inside the earth stand its feet, and there serpents, demons, and great serpents worship them.
धरती के भीतर सोलह हज़ार योजन नीचे उसके पैर टिके हैं, और वहाँ नाग, असुर और महानाग उनकी पूजा करते हैं।
अशीतिश्च सहस्राणि देहोऽस्यार्केन्दुलोचनः। पूज्यते नाकसदने सुरगन्धर्वकिंनरैः ॥ ३३ ॥
aśītiśca sahasrāṇi deho'syārkendulocanaḥ| pūjyate nākasadane suragandharvakiṃnaraiḥ || 33 ||
Its body is eighty thousand yojanas, its eyes are the sun and moon, and in the seat of heaven, gods, gandharvas, and kinnaras worship it.
उसका शरीर अस्सी हज़ार योजन का है, उसकी आँखें सूरज और चाँद हैं, और स्वर्ग के धाम में देवता, गंधर्व और किन्नर उसकी पूजा करते हैं।
चतुर्दशविधान्येनं गृहस्थमिव बान्धवाः। उपजीवन्ति भूतानि मिथो दृष्टपुरास्पदम् ॥ ३४ ॥
caturdaśavidhānyenaṃ gṛhasthamiva bāndhavāḥ| upajīvanti bhūtāni mitho dṛṣṭapurāspadam || 34 ||
The fourteen kinds of beings depend on it for their living, as kinsmen depend on a householder, and among themselves they see it as their age-old home.
चौदह प्रकार के प्राणी उस पर वैसे ही निर्भर रहते हैं जैसे रिश्तेदार किसी गृहस्थ पर निर्भर रहते हैं, और वे आपस में उसे अपना पुराना घर मानते हैं।
अस्य त्वीशानदिग्भागे पद्मरागमयं बृहत्। विद्यते शृङ्गमपरो दिवाकर इवोदितः ॥ ३५ ॥
asya tvīśānadigbhāge padmarāgamayaṃ bṛhat| vidyate śṛṅgamaparo divākara ivoditaḥ || 35 ||
In its northeast quarter there is a great peak made of ruby, rising like a second sun.

अस्यास्ति पृष्ठे भूतौघवृतः कल्पतरुर्महान् जगतः शिखरादर्शे प्रतिबिम्बमिव स्थितः ॥ ३६ ॥
asyāsti pṛṣṭhe bhūtaughavṛtaḥ kalpatarurmahān jagataḥ śikharādarśe pratibimbamiva sthitaḥ || 36 ||
On its summit stands the great wish-granting tree, surrounded by crowds of living beings, standing on the peak of the world like a reflection in a mirror.
उसकी चोटी पर वह महान कल्पवृक्ष खड़ा है, जो अनगिनत जीवों से घिरा है, और वह संसार की चोटी पर मानो दर्पण में किसी प्रतिबिंब जैसा खड़ा है।
तस्यास्ति दक्षिणस्कन्धे शाखा कनकपल्लवा रत्नस्तबकनीरन्ध्रा चन्द्रबिम्बोल्लसत्फला ॥ ३७ ॥
tasyāsti dakṣiṇaskandhe śākhā kanakapallavā ratnastabakanīrandhrā candrabimbollasatphalā || 37 ||
On its southern branch is a bough with golden shoots, packed close with clusters of gems, its fruits shining like the disc of the moon.
उसकी दक्षिणी शाखा में सोने की कोंपलों वाली एक डाल है, जो रत्नों के गुच्छों से भरी हुई है, और जिसके फल चाँद की तरह चमकते हैं।
तत्र पूर्वं मया नीडं कृतमासीत्स्फुरन्मणि देव्या ध्याननिषण्णायां यस्मिन्किल रमे सुताः ॥ ३८ ॥
tatra pūrvaṃ mayā nīḍaṃ kṛtamāsītsphuranmaṇi devyā dhyānaniṣaṇṇāyāṃ yasmin kila rame sutāḥ || 38 ||
O children, there I once built a nest that gleamed with jewels, while the goddess sat there in meditation, and in it I find my joy.
हे बच्चो, वहाँ मैंने पहले एक घोंसला बनाया था जो रत्नों से चमकता था, जब देवी वहाँ ध्यान में बैठी थीं, और उसी में मुझे आनंद मिलता है।
रत्नपुष्पदलच्छन्नं रसायनफलान्वितम् चिन्तामणिशलाकाभिर्विहितालिन्दसंस्थिति ॥ ३९ ॥
ratnapuṣpadalacchannaṃ rasāyanaphalānvitam cintāmaṇiśalākābhirvihitālindasaṃsthiti || 39 ||
It was covered with petals of jewelled flowers, filled with fruits of rejuvenating elixir, and its terrace was made with rods of wish-granting gems.
वह रत्न-फूलों की पंखुड़ियों से ढका था, रसायन के फलों से भरा था, और उसका आँगन इच्छा पूरी करने वाले मणियों की छड़ों से बना था।
बुद्धिपूर्वसमाचारैः संपूर्णं काकपुत्रकैः शीतलाभ्यन्तरं हृद्यं पूरितं कुसुमोत्करैः ॥ ४० ॥
buddhipūrvasamācāraiḥ saṃpūrṇaṃ kākaputrakaiḥ śītalābhyantaraṃ hṛdyaṃ pūritaṃ kusumotkaraiḥ || 40 ||
It was full of young crows of careful, thoughtful ways, cool inside and pleasant, and filled with heaps of flowers.
वह सोच-समझकर आचरण करने वाले काक-शिशुओं से भरा था, भीतर से ठंडा और मन को भाने वाला था, और फूलों के ढेरों से भरा था।
तद्गच्छत सुता नीडं दुर्गं नाकवतामपि । भोगं मोक्षं च तत्रस्था निर्विघ्रमलमाप्स्यथ ॥ ४१ ॥
tadgacchata sutā nīḍaṃ durgam nākavatāmapi | bhogaṃ mokṣaṃ ca tatrasthā nirvighramalamāpsyatha || 41 ||
So go, children, to that nest, which even those who live in heaven cannot easily reach; staying there you will fully win both enjoyment and freedom, with nothing to stop you.
इसलिए, हे बच्चो, उस घोंसले में जाओ, जहाँ स्वर्ग में रहने वाले भी आसानी से नहीं पहुँच पाते; वहाँ रहकर तुम बिना किसी रुकावट के भोग और मुक्ति दोनों पूरी तरह पा लोगे।
इत्युक्त्वास्मान्पिता तत्र चुचुम्बाभ्यालिलिङ्ग च । ददौ देव्या यदानीतमस्मभ्यं च तदामिषम् ॥ ४२ ॥
ityuktvāsmānpitā tatra cucumbābhyāliliṅga ca | dadau devyā yadānītamasmabhyaṃ ca tadāmiṣam || 42 ||
Having said this, our father kissed us there and held us close, and gave us the food that the goddess had brought.
यह कहकर हमारे पिता ने वहाँ हमें चूमा और हमें गले लगाया, और देवी द्वारा लाया गया वह भोजन हमें दिया।
तद्भुक्त्वा चरणौ देव्याः पितुश्चैवाभिवाद्य च । विन्ध्यकच्छाद्वयं तस्मात्स्थानादालम्बुसात्प्लुताः ॥ ४३ ॥
tadbhuktvā caraṇau devyāḥ pituscaivābhivādya ca | vindhyakacchādvayaṃ tasmātsthānādālambusātplutāḥ || 43 ||
Having eaten that, and having bowed at the feet of the goddess and of our father, the two of us flew off from that abode of Alambusa in the Vindhya lowlands.
उसे खाकर, और देवी तथा अपने पिता के चरणों में प्रणाम करके, हम दोनों विन्ध्य की तराई में अलम्बुसा के उस धाम से उड़ चले।
क्रमेणाकाशमुल्लङ्घ्य निर्गत्याम्बुदकोटरैः । पवनस्कन्धमासाद्य वन्दितव्योमचारिणः ॥ ४४ ॥
krameṇākāśamullaṅghya nirgatyaambudakoṭaraiḥ | pavanasakndhamāsādya vanditavyomacāriṇaḥ || 44 ||
Gradually crossing the sky, coming out from the hollows of the clouds, and reaching the region of the wind, we saluted those who wander the sky.
धीरे-धीरे आकाश को पार करते हुए, बादलों की गुफाओं से बाहर निकलकर, और वायु के क्षेत्र में पहुँचकर, हमने आकाश में विचरने वालों को प्रणाम किया।
परिहृत्य दिनाधीशं लोकान्तरपुरं गताः । स्वर्गमुल्लङ्घ्य याताः स्मो ब्रह्मलोकं मुनीश्वर ॥ ४५ ॥
parihṛtya dinādhīśaṃ lokāntarapuraṃ gatāḥ | svargamullaṅghya yātāḥ smo brahmalokaṃ munīśvara || 45 ||
Avoiding the lord of the day, we went to the city of another world; and crossing beyond heaven, O lord of sages, we reached the world of Brahma.
दिन के स्वामी से बचते हुए, हम दूसरे लोक के नगर में गए; और स्वर्ग को पार करके, हे मुनीश्वर, हम ब्रह्मलोक पहुँचे।
प्रणामपूर्वं तत्रैतद्यथावत्तत्पितुर्वचःमात्रे च भगवत्यै च ब्राह्म्यै चाशु निवेदितम् ॥ ४६ ॥
praṇāmapūrvaṃ tatraitadyathāvattatpiturvacaḥmātre ca bhagavatyai ca brāhmyai cāśu niveditam || 46 ||
There, after bowing, we quickly told our father's words, just as they were, to our mother and to the blessed goddess Brahmi.
वहाँ प्रणाम करके, हमने पिता के वचन ज्यों के त्यों, माता को और भगवती देवी ब्राह्मी को शीघ्र सुना दिए।
ताभ्यां सस्नेहमालिङ्ग्य गच्छतेत्याज्ञयैधिताःवयं कृतनमस्कारा ब्रह्मलोकाद्विनिर्गताः ॥ ४७ ॥
tābhyāṃ sasnehamāliṅgya gacchatetyājñayaidhitāḥvayaṃ kṛtanamaskārā brahmalokādvinirgatāḥ || 47 ||
The two of them embraced us with love, and their word, Go, filled us with joy; having paid our respects, we left the world of Brahma.
उन दोनों ने हमें प्रेम से गले लगाया, और उनके जाओ शब्द ने हमें आनंद से भर दिया; प्रणाम करके हम ब्रह्मलोक से निकल पड़े।
उल्लङ्घ्य लोकपालानां पुरीस्तपनभास्वराःआकाशगामिनो लोलाः पवनस्कन्धचारिणः ॥ ४८ ॥
ullaṅghya lokapālānāṃ purīstapanabhāsvarāḥākāśagāmino lolāḥ pavanaskandhacāriṇaḥ || 48 ||
Crossing over the cities of the guardians of the world, shining like the sun, going through the sky, darting and swift, wandering in the region of the wind.
लोकपालों के नगरों को पार करते हुए, सूरज जैसे चमकते हुए, आकाश में उड़ते हुए, चंचल और तेज़, वायु के क्षेत्र में विचरते हुए।
इमं कल्पतरुं प्राप्य निजं नीडं प्रविश्य चदूरस्थबाधास्तिष्ठामो मुने मौनमवस्थिताः ॥ ४९ ॥
imaṃ kalpataruṃ prāpya nijaṃ nīḍaṃ praviśya cadūrasthabādhāstiṣṭhāmo mune maunamavasthitāḥ || 49 ||
Reaching this wish-granting tree and entering our own nest, O sage, we stay here far from all trouble, settled in silence.
इस कल्पवृक्ष तक पहुँचकर और अपने घोंसले में जाकर, हे मुनि, हम सब कष्टों से दूर, मौन होकर यहाँ रहते हैं।
जाता यथा वयमिमे स्थितिमागताश्च संप्राप्य बोधमुपशान्तधियो यथावतेतत्तदुक्तमविखण्डमलं मया ते शेषेण मां समनुशाधि महानुभाव ॥ ५० ॥
jātā yathā vayamime sthitimāgatāśca saṃprāpya bodhamupaśāntadhiyo yathāvatetattaduktamavikhaṇḍamalaṃ mayā te śeṣeṇa māṃ samanuśādhi mahānubhāva || 50 ||
How we were born, how we came to this state, and how, once we gained understanding, our minds grew calm, all this I have told you fully and exactly, leaving nothing out. Now teach me the rest, great one.
हम कैसे जन्मे, कैसे इस स्थिति में आए, और समझ पाकर हमारे मन कैसे शांत हुए, यह सब मैंने आपको पूरी तरह और ठीक-ठीक बता दिया है, कुछ भी छोड़े बिना। अब हे महानुभाव, मुझे शेष बात सिखाइए।
