Vasishtha said: This is the method I have told you so far, the one common to all embodied beings. Now listen to this other, special one, lotus-eyed one.
The first is this: through the practice taught by a guru, followed slowly, step by step, it is said to bring success, whether in one birth or over many births.
The second, however, comes to one whose mind has already matured a little, by himself alone and quickly. The reaching of knowledge happens like a fruit falling from the sky.
Listen to this story, fortunate one. Great souls, from whom the whole flood of past obstacles of good and bad deeds has gone, reach the highest, stainless discernment in their last birth, like a fruit falling from the sky.
