Shri Vasishtha said: If knowledge is not attained through one's own efforts, intelligence, and the expansion of good company, then there is no other means.
All this, starting from the inanimate, is established as both real and unreal. It is calm like a reflection in a mirror. Salutations to that great soul.
In this world, people strive to treat the disease of worldly pleasures with harmful medicines, living as best they can, but they do not seek treatment for other ailments.
Let life not be wasted by the treatments of the disease of hell in this world; let the ignorant be treated with the medicines of self-knowledge for the afterlife.
The living being is known as pure consciousness; its expansion is the universe. Even in the belly of an atom, it exists with the expanse of a hundred mountains.
If the soul is immersed in the ocean of material enjoyment, it cannot be saved unless it is through the marvel of one's own strength; there is no other way.
A person who has not conquered their senses is foolish and is stuck in the mire of material enjoyment. They become a receptacle for misfortunes, like the ocean for rivers.
Just as childhood is the first stage of life, so too is the renunciation of material enjoyment the first step towards liberation, which brings peace from desires.
The various creations manifest as mere reflections of consciousness, appearing like the illusion of a double moon, a ghost, a mirage, a dream, or a magical trick.
The myriad creations appear as waves of consciousness. When examined, they are found to be unreal, but they seem real due to the illusion of experience.
The creation is like a bubble in the expansion of consciousness, appearing as various forms of existence, such as the sense of 'I' and other manifestations.
saṃvinnirvāṇamajagatsaṃvidunmīlanaṃ jagat | nāntarna bāhyaṃ nāsatyam na satyaṃ sarvameva tat || 30 ||
The absence of consciousness is the absence of the world, and the unfolding of consciousness is the world. There is no inner or outer, no unreal or real; everything is that.
Brahma, the eternal, unmanifested, one, imperishable, and the Lord, devoid of the nature of individuality, is of the nature of consciousness, tranquil, and the enjoyer of bliss.
There is only one, without any reflection, of the nature of consciousness, non-inert, uniform, neither existent nor non-existent, neither real nor unreal, imperishable, and non-dual.
Just as the vibrations of the wind are indistinguishable from each other, so are the creation and the creator indistinguishable. However, their apparent difference is unreal, like a dream or an illusion of one's own death.
Attain the state of the sky, free from all delusions of old age, ignorance, and modifications, by realizing the eternal, one, pure, auspicious, and infinite Brahman.
