The great sage Valmiki said: O Bharadvaja, the wise one, the leader of my disciples, thus Rama and others, having known the knowable, have attained a state free from sorrow.
These means of liberation are pure and give direct experiential knowledge. Even a child, by listening to them, attains knowledge. What then to speak of someone like you?
Just as the great souls, following the path of virtue, attain the supreme state without sorrow, so should you, O virtuous one, follow the path indicated by the words of Vasistha.
The wise, who are attentive and follow the path of the virtuous, find the knowable through excellent service, inquiry, and noble discourse, just as Raghava and others did through their association with Vasistha.
tṛṣṇāvaratrādṛḍhabandhabaddhā ye granthayo'jñasya hṛdi prarūḍhāḥ | sarve hi te mokṣakathāvicārād bālā hyabālā iva yāntyabhedam || 9 ||
Those who are bound by strong desires and ignorance, with their minds filled with such thoughts, all of them, through the contemplation of liberation stories, become like children, free from differences.
mokṣābhyupāyānsumahānubhāvān jñāsyanti ye tattvavidāṃ variṣṭhāḥ | punaḥ sameṣyanti na saṃsṛtiṃ te ko'rthaḥ sutā'nyena bahūditena || 10 ||
Those who know the great means of liberation, the foremost among the knowers of truth, will not return to the cycle of rebirth. What is the use of many other teachings?
bahuśrutā ye pravicārya samyakprabodhitārthe kathayā janāya | santo vadiṣyanti punaḥ śiśutvaṃ na te prayāsyanti kimanyavākyaiḥ || 11 ||
Those who have heard much and have properly understood the meaning through reflection will speak to the people. The wise will not speak of childhood again. What is the use of other words?
ye vācayiṣyantyanapekṣitārthā ye lekhayiṣyanti ca pustakaṃ vā | ye kārayiṣyantyapi vācakaṃ vā vyākhyātṛyuktaṃ śubhamāryadeśe || 12 ||
Those who will recite this without any expectation, those who will write this book, and those who will cause it to be recited or explained in the noble land will be blessed.
Those who are endowed with the fruits of the Rajasuya sacrifice will repeatedly attain heaven with noble qualities and will achieve liberation in their third birth, like Lakshmi, the goddess of fortune, who is full of merit.
In ancient times, having contemplated this path to liberation, which is well-composed and based on true words from Brahma, the one with an inconceivable form put it into practice. His words are never untrue.
In the narrative that describes the means to liberation, having reached completion with effort and wisdom, one should offer a good residence, desired food, and drink to the Brahmins, who should be worshipped.
deyaṃ ca tebhyaḥ khalu dakṣiṇādi cittēpsitaṃ svasya dhanasya śaktyā | matvānurūpaṃ kṛtamēva saṅgapuṇyaṃ yathāśāstramupaiti yasau tat || 16 ||
One should also give to them (the Brahmins) appropriate gifts according to one's ability and the desire of the mind. Considering it suitable, the merit of association is achieved according to the scriptures.
This great scripture, which has been told to you through hundreds of stories to enlighten the wise, is adorned with the pure essence of the expanded Brahman and illustrated with examples and reasoning. Having heard this, attain eternal bliss, O liberated one, and enjoy the imperishable Lakshmi, who is endowed with the sequence of knowledge, austerity, and ritual.
