śrīrāma uvāca | ekasaṃvinmayāḥ sarva evaikavapuṣo'pi te | vividhecchāḥ kathaṃ brahmannsaṃpannā ekadehinaḥ || 1 ||
Sri Rama said: O Brahman, how do various desires arise in those who are of one consciousness and one body?
śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | ekasaṃviddhanākāśamapyanānaiva sarvagam | svayaṃ nāneva saṃpannaṃ supte cittamivātmani || 2 ||
Vasistha said: Even the single space of consciousness is all-pervading and diverse. It appears diverse, like the mind in sleep, within the self.
tasyācchatvāttathābhūtamātmaivaātmani bimbiti | tādṛśasya tathābhūtau mukurasyaiva nirmalā || 3 ||
Due to its reflective nature, the self itself reflects in the self. Just as a clear mirror reflects objects, so does the self reflect in its pure state.
ekalohamayā eva yathādarśāḥ parasparam | tathaite pratibimbanti padārthāḥ pāramārthikāḥ || 4 ||
Just as mirrors made of the same metal reflect each other, so do the ultimate realities reflect each other.
tena yasya yadā yadyatpuro bhavati vastvasau | yadarthaṃ yujyate tena ciddhanaikasvabhāvataḥ || 5 ||
Therefore, whatever object appears before anyone at any time, it is experienced according to the nature of pure consciousness.
ityanānaiva nānedaṃ nānānānā ca vastutaḥ | na ca nānā na cānānā nānānānātmakaṃ tataḥ || 6 ||
Thus, it is not diverse, nor is it uniform, nor is it diverse in reality | Neither is it diverse, nor is it uniform, nor is it of a diverse nature || 6 ||
tena yasya yadāyātaṃ puro vastu vipaścitaḥ | sa tena saṃvinmayatāmetya tadvashamāgataḥ || 7 ||
By that, whatever object comes before the wise | He becomes absorbed in that, coming under its influence || 7 ||
ekadeśagatā viṣvagvyāpya karmāṇi kurvate | yoginastriṣu kāleṣu sarvāṇyanubhavantyapi || 8 ||
Those who are situated in one place, pervade everywhere, performing actions | Yogis experience all in three times || 8 ||
abdo'pi vyāptimānekaḥ tulyakālaṃ pṛthakkriyāḥ | āhlādas tena pādena karotyanubhavatyapi || 9 ||
Even the sky, being all-pervading, performs different actions at the same time | It experiences joy with that part || 9 ||
tulyakālamasaṃkhyātamīśvarapratiyoginaḥ | karmajālaṃ jagajjātaṃ kurvantyanubhavanti ca || 10 ||
At the same time, the countless actions of those who are connected with the Lord | They perform and experience the web of actions born in the world || 10 ||
eko viṣṇuścaturbhiḥ svairbāhubhirvā śarīrakaiḥ | pṛthakkurvankriyāḥ pāti jagadbhuṃkte varāṅganāḥ || 11 ||
The one Vishnu, with his four arms or bodies, performs various actions, protects the world, and enjoys with beautiful women.
bahubāhuryadā dvābhyāṃ hastābhyāṃ hyarthasaṃgraham | karoti bahubhirbhūyaḥ saṃgrāmaṃ satataṃ karaiḥ || 12 ||
When the many-armed one, with two hands, accumulates wealth, with many arms, he continuously engages in battle.
tathaiva tairvipaścidbhiḥ sarvadikkam tathā sthitaiḥ | tathā vyavahṛtaṃ prāptamekasaṃvinmayairapi || 13 ||
Similarly, with those wise ones, situated in all directions, thus engaged in activities, even with one consciousness.

rūḍhamarṇavamālāsu vātyāsu jalavīciṣu | krīḍitaṃ bhūbhṛdabdhīnāṃ taṭīṣu nagarīṣu ca || 16 ||

śākadvīpodayagiritaṭe saptavarṣāṇi suptaṃ pūrveṇāntarvidalagahane yakṣasaṃmohitena | pāṣāṇāmbu prasabhamamunaivātra pītvā dṛṣattāmāgatyaantaḥ sthitamatha samāḥ sapta jātyena bhūmeḥ || 17 ||
On the shore of the mountain where the Shaka island rises, he slept for seven years, bewitched by the Yaksha in the dense inner forest. Drinking the stone water here suddenly, he regained his vision and remained inside for seven years, becoming part of the earth.

In the year of peace and fearlessness, in the waterfall of the great mountain, in the Haritaki forest, he previously disappeared for a year.
