Shri Valmiki said: After hearing this wonderful, long speech of the lion among kings, Vishvamitra felt a thrill of joy in his body, and the greatly radiant sage began to speak.
You should save me. I am in pain and have come to you seeking shelter. When someone comes asking for help and a good man sends him away disappointed, that is a defeat for the good man.
O tiger among kings, you should give me that son of yours - Rama, whose courage is true, who is brave, who still wears a boy's side-locks, and who is your eldest son.
And once they face Rama, those night-wandering demons will not be able to stand their ground - just as deer in the forest cannot stand before an angry lion.
And apart from Rama, the descendant of Kakutstha, no other man has the courage to fight them - just as no one but an angry lion dares fight maddened elephants.
Indeed, I am sure of this - know that those demons are as good as dead already. For wise people like us do not take up something whose result is uncertain.
nātyeti kālaḥ kālajña yathāyaṃ mama rāghava | tathā kuruṣva bhadraṃ te mā ca śoke manaḥ kṛthāḥ || 25 ||
O Raghava, you who understand the value of time, please act so that this time of mine does not slip away. May good come to you - do not let your mind sink into sorrow.
śrutvā vaco munivarasya mahānubhāvas tūṣṇīmatiṣṭhadupapannapadaṃ sa vaktum | no yuktiyuktakathanena vinaiti toṣaṃ dhīmānapūritamano'bhimataśca lokaḥ || 28 ||
Having heard the words of that great sage, the noble king stayed silent for a while, even though he had a fitting answer ready to give - because a thoughtful person, when his mind is not yet fully settled, and a person the world looks up to, feels satisfied only when he speaks after careful reasoning.
